Disinfection with UV-A and catalyst
Disinfection with UV-A light and catalyst is also called photocatalysis. A chemical reaction is accelerated under the influence of UV-A light and a catalyst.
The UV-A light shines on the catalyst, which initiates a chemical reaction that ensures disinfection. Take, for example, a self-cleaning coating used in the food industry that contains titanium dioxide as a catalyst. Titanium dioxide ensures effective disinfection of machines under the influence of UV-A light.
Disinfection by means of photocatalysis is also used in:
- Medical sector for, for example, the disinfection of rooms, machines, medical instruments and user surfaces.
- Disinfection of water for horticulture or swimming pools (breakdown of micro-organisms, pathogens, biofilm, oil, etc.)
- Photocatalytic hydrogen production
- Chemical industry
- Paints with a photocatalytic effect for disinfection of façades, for a healthier environment and better environment.
