What are silicone extrusions
A silicone extrusion is a semi-finished product, which is usually applied as a specific product or on a project basis. The silicone extrusion itself consists of an empty shell without LEDs. They are flexible profiles made of silicone or polyurethane. These synthetic materials give the silicone extrusion a high IP value and ensure that it remains flexible.
Composing silicone extrusions
To get a complete LED extrusion, the silicone jacket must be assembled with a suitable LED-strip. There are countless possibilities in assembling silicone LED extrusions. The extrusions are assembled, custom-made and produced by LuxaLight depending on the specifications of the end product and/ or project application. Technical specifications that can be processed by LuxaLight in the LED extrusion, such as specifications such as; LED type, lumen output, opening angle, bending direction, cable type, cable length etc.
Heat development
Silicone extrusions have a fairly low thermal conductivity, which means that the LED strip cannot properly dissipate the heat. For this reason, the design of a silicone LED extrusion must be equipped with first-class components, which have a high efficiency and low heat generation. If there is a high heat development, the LED-strip should be cooled or adjusted to a lower voltage. A lower voltage results in a lower heat development and a longer life.
Monitoring
Various factors can play a role in the heat development of a silicone extrusion, so a monitoring system is necessary to guarantee the lifespan of the LEDs. MaNima Technologies has developed such a monitoring system, the MaNima Pollux. The Pollux measures the temperature of the LED extrusion in real time. By reading the data, the Pollux can immediately reduce the power, if necessary, so that the heat development of the LED extrusion is lower. This keeps the extrusion within the maximum operating temperature even at extreme ambient temperatures.
